Emerald Park Golf Course to close July 1

North Little Rock’s Emerald Park Golf Course will permanently close July 1 after it was selected earlier this year as the site of a new state veterans home.

The 52.7-acre golf course site is across the street from the Eugene Towbin Veterans Affairs Hospital at Fort Roots. North Little Rock has leased the site from the federal Veterans Administration since 1998 but will terminate the lease so the state Veterans Administration may procure the property from the federal agency, the city said. Federal grant funding was approved for the project in March, and contractor bidding is due to begin later in the year.

The last day to golf on the course is June 30, and all season passes bought for the course will be honored at the Burns Park tournament golf course, the city said. The Emerald Park employees also will be assigned to duties at the Burns Park course, it added.
