Foley’s mind isn’t on Arkansas women’s job

UALR Coach Joe Foley is focusing on today’s Sun Belt Tournament game against Troy and nothing else, particularly potential job prospects.

Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long fired Tom Collen on Friday after seven seasons as the school’s women’s basketball coach, leading some to speculate whether Long might be interested in Foley, who is 670-206 over 27 seasons at Arkansas Tech and UALR.

Foley said Monday night while his team was traveling to New Orleans that he hasn’t been contacted by Long or anyone at Arkansas.

“They’ve never talked to me, and I’ve lived in this state all my life,” Foley said by telephone. “I’m not worried anything about that because it’s never happened. I haven’t thought about it. I’m worried about trying to win this tournament.”

Foley has led UALR (17-11) to six consecutive postseason appearances. The Trojans went to the NCAA Tournament in 2010-2012 and defeated Georgia Tech in a first-round game in 2010.

Collen was fired after compiling a 132-90 record in seven seasons, which included one trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks finished 19-11 this season.
