Church Picnic and Bazaar

NEW DIXIE — The annual St. Boniface Catholic Church picnic and bazaar will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, five miles west of Conway on Arkansas 60. The communitywide event includes beef brisket and chicken. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children 6 to 12. Children 5 and younger may eat free. The event will include live music, horseback rides and old-fashioned carnival games, which cost 50 cents. A silent auction will be held, and raffle tickets will be available, as well as St. Boniface T-shirts. For more information, call (501) 391-2340.

Author Presentation

MORRILTON — Award-winning author Nancy Dane will speak to the Morrilton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. She will discuss Civil War Arkansas. Dane, an alumna of the University of the Ozarks, has four published historical novels and a Civil War documentary titled Tattered Glory. Dane’s books are being used as curriculum in Arkansas high schools and colleges. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call (501) 354-2187.

CONWAY — Conway AARP Chapter 796 will hold its monthly meeting, potluck and bingo, beginning at 10:45 a.m., in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church, 1610 Prince St.

Retired Teachers Association

CLINTON — The Van Buren County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Western Sizzlin. Musical entertainment will presented by Steve Smith and Becky Bradley. President Betty Oliger and others will report on the area meeting of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association held May 8 in Ashflat, including news of retirement benefits and legislative matters concerning retirees. The association will announce the winners of $150 scholarships to a senior at each of the three high schools in the county. Retirees are asked to bring a count of their volunteer hours for the past year or notify Oliger of the hours.

Internationl Show Reception

MORRILTON — The Rialto Gallery on Broadway in Morrilton will hold a reception from 5-7 p.m. for the International Show and Sale of items collected from 20 countries over a 60-year period during travels and work. There will be a wine, finger-food and cheese reception. Those attending will have an opportunity to visit with one of the collectors.

Mount Vernon School Reunion

MOUNT VERNON — The annual Mount Vernon School reunion will begin at 11 a.m. in the school cafeteria. A potluck lunch will be held at noon. All past and present students, faculty and friends are invited. Special recognition for the class of 1964 is planned. A $1,0000 Mount Vernon-Enola Alumni Scholarship will be presented to a graduating senior in honor of Kellar Noggle. The Desmond Paul Henry family will present a $1,000 scholarship to a senior as well.

Quitman School Reunion

QUITMAN — The annual Quitman School reunion will be held at 2 p.m. at the school. All students — past and present — are encouraged to attend and meet old friends and make new ones. Participants are asked to bring old photographs.

International Traveler Exhibit

MORRILTON — The Rialto Gallery on Broadway in Morrilton is exhibiting a 60-year collection of items from 20 countries, with some of the items for sale, including pictures, dresses, shirts, ponchos, scarves, 14 3- by 5-inch flags from various countries and assorted items. Pool Passes and Reservations

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department is selling individual pool passes to the M.J. Hickey Pool for $75 each. Reservations for private pool parties are also being taken. Available times are 9-11 a.m. Saturdays; 8-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 7-10 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The cost is $50 per hour, plus $12.50 per hour per lifeguard, based on the number of guests. Passes may be purchased and reservations made at the Hughes Community Center, 1000 E. CONWAY — A Bible lecture and luncheon led by Wanda Landers takes place from 11:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Woodland Heights Baptist Church, 4215 Prince St. Lunch, a drink and dessert will be served for $5.
