Commission warns against burning storm debris

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is warning residents not to burn tornado debris on commission property.

The April 27 tornado heavily damaged many homes around the Craig D. Campbell Lake Conway Reservoir, and the commission says questions have been asked about burning the debris on commission-owned property surrounding the lake.

Commission Lake Manager Matt Horton said the state Department of Environmental Quality prohibits burning debris left by the tornado. Horton said burning the debris could lead to contamination of water running into the lake.

Horton said Game and Fish Commission employees are picking up debris and trash from the lake and its shoreline and that a large-scale debris-pickup effort is planned during the week of June 16.
