Tulsa jury convicts man in wife's beating death

TULSA — A formal sentencing is set for next week for an Oklahoma man convicted in the bludgeoning death of his wife.

A jury in Tulsa convicted Joseph Aaron Mitchell of first-degree murder in the 2012 death of 50-year-old Kennie Sue Mitchell. Authorities say Kennie Mitchell died after suffering blunt-force trauma on her head and body.

The jury has recommended Joseph Mitchell be sentenced to life in prison without parole. A sentencing hearing is set for Monday before District Judge Tom Gillert.

The Tulsa World reported that Kennie Mitchell had worked as a secretary in the aviation field.
