Want to know how to take your drink to the next level? Reach for a bottle of bitters, flavored simple syrup or make a shrub, writes Kelly Brant in Food.

While these ingredients are most often used in high-end cocktails, they perk up nonalcoholic drinks as well. Infused with fruit, spices or even nuts, bitters, shrubs and flavored syrups are the (not so) secret ingredients of the beverage world.
