1 sought in gunfire at LR gas station

Police are searching for a man suspected in an exchange of gunfire at a Little Rock gas station Wednesday morning.

Little Rock police received a report of shots fired at the Exxon 30 Super Store at 612 E. Roosevelt about 9:34 Wednesday morning. According to an incident report, an unknown black man, believed to be 20-30 years old, walked into the store before turning and firing a handgun at people near two vehicles parked beside gas pumps.

Store security video shows the suspect parking a gray Oldsmobile beside a pump, then walking past another vehicle occupied by John K. Mitchell, 35, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Ruth Scott, 21, of Tampa, Fla. When the suspect began firing toward them, Mitchell, who has a concealed carry permit, returned fire with his own handgun, according to the report.

Mitchell broke away from his car and ran toward an access road, where he fell in the grass, according to the report. Scott then ran around the vehicle, got into the driver's seat and drove to where Mitchell had fallen, the report said. Mitchell got into the vehicle, and Scott drove to Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock, where Mitchell was treated for three or four gunshot wounds in his leg, according to the report.

Another victim, Amanda Obsitinik, 34, of Little Rock, jumped across the seat of her vehicle when the shots were fired to protect her 4-year-old child, according to the report. The child was unharmed, but Obsitinik suffered a laceration to the upper leg, either from a bullet or debris.

The unknown shooter left the scene in his car before authorities arrived, according to the report.
