Millage elections, proposed changes across state

Taxpayers in some school districts across the state will vote on proposed millage rate changes. Early voting begins Tuesday for the Sept. 16 school election. Here is a list of proposed changes based upon information provided by county clerks and county election commissions.

A mill is one-10th of a cent. Each mill produces $1 of tax for every $1,000 of assessed valuation.

ARKANSAS COUNTY

DeWitt School District

A 3.5-mill increase, from 34.5 mills to 38 mills, new debt service.

ASHLEY COUNTY

Crossett School District

A 4-mill increase, from 35.97 mills to 39.97 mills, new debt service.

BENTON COUNTY

Gravette School District

3.6-mill increase from 37.2 mills to 40.8 mills. 1.33 mills for maintenance and operations; 2.27 mills for debt service.

BOONE COUNTY

Harrison School District

4.9-mill increase from 34.3 mills to 39.2 mills for construction and remodeling.

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY

Buffalo Island School District

A 9-mill increase, from 33 mills to 42 mills, new debt service.

LAWRENCE COUNTY

Lawrence County School District

A 6.9-mill increase, from 32.4 mills to 39.3 mills, debt service, new debt service, general maintenance and operations.

PIKE COUNTY

Center Point School District

2.4-mill increase, from 38.6 mills to 41 mills, construction of a new elementary school.

POINSETT COUNTY

Trumann School District

A 2.8-mill increase, from 35.8 mills to 38.6 mills, new construction.

SEBASTIAN COUNTY

Greenwood School District

1.9-mill increase from 38.7 mills to 40.6 mills for new debt service.

SEARCY COUNTY

Searcy County School District

A 3.8-mill increase, from 32.75 mills to 36.55 mills, new debt service.

UNION COUNTY

Smackover-Norphlet School District

Voters will decide on decreasing the former Norphlet School District’s millage rage by 1 mill so it will equal the 41 mills collected in the Smackover School District. The two school districts merged earlier this year.

VAN BUREN COUNTY

Clinton School District

A 1-mill increase, from 36.8 mills to 37.8 mills, debt service.
