Bail set at $200,000 in child-sex sting

FORT SMITH -- An Oklahoma man was being held in the Sebastian County jail Wednesday in lieu of $200,000 bond after he was arrested earlier this week in a sting in which authorities said he had traveled to Fort Smith to have sex with a minor boy and girl.

Jack Lambeth, 58, of Midwest City pleaded innocent in Sebastian County Circuit Court to two counts of attempted rape. If convicted, Lambeth could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison on each count, according to a news release from Prosecuting Attorney Dan Shue.

Lambeth, a truck driver, was arrested Monday by Fort Smith undercover police while another officer was driving him to have sex with her fictional minor daughter and son.

A police report showed that the officer, posing as the mother of two children, developed a relationship with Lambeth beginning March 10 in online chat rooms. During the first conversation, according to the report, Lambeth told the officer that he wanted to become involved in a sexual relationship with her daughter. The police officer had told Lambeth that her daughter was 9 years old.

The report said that in later conversations, Lambeth told the officer about things he had done and things he would like to do with the officer and her two children. He also told the officer that he had sexually abused his stepdaughter, according to the report.

Lambeth mailed sex toys to the officer to give to the children, the report said.

On Monday, the report said, Lambeth called the officer from a motel in Van Buren. They met at a restaurant in Van Buren, then drove to a restaurant in Fort Smith.

Undercover officers were stationed in the Van Buren restaurant and at the Fort Smith restaurant.

When the officer and Lambeth arrived at the Fort Smith restaurant, the report said, other officers approached, identified themselves as police and arrested Lambeth.
