Two found dead in Lawrence County fire

by Gavin Lesnick | April 21, 2015 at 11:39 a.m. | Updated April 21, 2015 at 12:18 p.m.

Two people were found dead after crews responded to a mobile home fire in Lawrence County overnight.

Lawrence County sheriff's office Sgt. Jamie White said the structure at 5906 U.S. 63 south of Ravenden was fully engulfed in flames when crews responded about 1 a.m. Tuesday. A passerby reported the fire.

A man and a woman who are believed to be the residents of the home were found dead inside, White said, noting that the bodies have been sent to the state Crime Laboratory for positive identification.

White said there were no preliminary suggestions of anything suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing.

"Obviously, we want to determine the cause and origin and rule out any foul play," he said. "If it was an accident, we want to find that out so we can give closure to the family."

Arkansas State Police troopers are assisting the sheriff's office in the investigation.
