A 42-year-old Hope man died after his vehicle was hit from behind and then overturned Wednesday morning near Hope, authorities said.
It happened shortly after 10:45 a.m. on Hempstead County Road 52 about 5 miles east of Hope.
Arkansas State Police say William J. Smith was driving a 1997 Jeep west on the highway when the vehicle was struck from behind by a westbound 2002 Dodge pickup.
The impact caused the Jeep to overturn. Smith died at the scene. The pickup driver, who wasn't identified in the report, was not listed as injured.
It wasn't clear what caused the collision. Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.
The death was the 306th in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
