Motorcycle rider hurt, woman killed in Garland County crash

A motorcycle rider was hurt and a passenger with him killed Tuesday in a crash in Garland County, authorities said.

It happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. as 41-year-old Michael A. Poland of Amity rode a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on Arkansas 70 with 47-year-old Carol D. Norwood of Glenwood as a passenger, Arkansas State Police said.

According to a report, the motorcycle hit the back of a westbound 2003 Toyota that had stopped on the highway to make a left turn.

Norwood was thrown from the motorcycle into the side of an eastbound 1994 Ford, the report said. She suffered fatal injuries.

Poland was taken to CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs for treatment of unspecified injuries. His condition Wednesday wasn't known.

Conditions at the time of the wreck were said to be clear and dry.

The death was the 321st in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
