A Hermitage man was killed after his truck veered into oncoming traffic in Cleveland County on Wednesday, according to a preliminary report from Arkansas State Police.

Jimmy E. Carpenter, 47, was driving south on U.S. 63 north of Rye about 7:45 a.m. when his 2010 Ford F-150 crossed the highway's centerline and struck the front of a northbound tractor-trailer on its left side, state police said.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described in the report as cloudy and dry.

Information regarding the condition of the tractor-trailer's driver was not available Wednesday afternoon.

The death was the 487th in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
