LITTLE ROCK — Four members of Arkansas' congressional delegation have sent a letter to the Department of Interior, opposing a land trust request from the Quapaw tribe.
The letter signed by Sens. Tom Cotton and John Boozman, and Reps. French Hill and Bruce Westerman, opposes the Quapaw's application to put 160 acres of land adjacent to the Little Rock Port industrial park into federal trust.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Little Rock and Pulaski County officials have written letters opposing the application. They have said the move is unnecessary given past commitment to preserve cultural resources.
Some officials worry that the tribe will eventually apply to build a casino or gaming facility on the property. Tribe officials have said a casino is not in its immediate plans.
