A man fell to his death Tuesday afternoon at a construction site in downtown Little Rock.

Emergency personnel responded about 2:30 p.m. to Main and Third streets, where Kinco Constructors employee Erik Rivera Pontilla had been working on the second level of a steel building frame.

Construction workers told police they heard a "thud" and found Pontilla, 29, on the ground, according to police spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis.

Pontilla, of North Little Rock, was taken to UAMS Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Davis said that Pontilla lost his footing, fell from about 11 feet high and struck his head on a concrete slab. Investigators did not suspect foul play, Davis said.

Kinco Constructors Vice President Keith Jacks said the company suspended work at the site after Pontilla's death. The site will likely remain closed today, he said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating.

The structure where Pontilla fell is among several construction and renovation sites along the Main Street corridor, where a revitalization project is ongoing.
