News and notes

• There are still questions surrounding the injury that put pitcher Derrick Bleeker (A Orioles) on the disabled list last week. According to several reports, Bleeker left a game against Lakewood (A Phillies) on May 21 after throwing out a batter who attempted to reach on a bunt to lead off the ninth inning. Some reports indicated that Bleeker left because of forearm tightness, but others suggested Bleeker complained of elbow discomfort. He underwent an MRI on May 22, but Steve Melewski of Mid-Atlantic Sports Network said the results were inconclusive. A second MRI was done Tuesday, according to Melewski, but those results are not yet known.

• Pitcher Ryne Stanek (Arkansas Razorbacks) was promoted May 25 to Class AA Montgomery, Ala., from high-A Port Charlotte, Fla. Stanek went 4-2 with a 1.78 ERA in 9 appearances for the Stone Crabs and is likely to stay in Montgomery the rest of the season, according to radio announcer Aaron Vargas. "He's not just filling a spot," Vargas said. "Generally speaking, the Rays won't fill spots opened by injuries with prospects. They will rarely bring a prospect up a level then send him right back down. Since Stanek's a first-rounder, the Rays have every intention of keeping him in [Montgomery] for the rest of the year."
