47 students get scholarships at LULAC Council banquet

by Bobby Ampezzan | October 18, 2015 at 2:03 a.m.

One of the better attended scholarship banquets every year is the one put on each fall by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 750 Little Rock at the Clinton Presidential Center. This year 47 students received LULAC scholarships ranging from $250 to $2,500.

Heather Rainbolt, one of the scholarship officers, says that Hendrix College, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences match every LULAC scholarship award, while Pulaski Technical College offers two full rides for the highest achieving scholarship winners that go to the community college.

The lion's share of the scholarship winners are swallowed up by UALR (20), followed by Pulaski Tech (10).

UALR Provost Zulma Toro gave the keynote address of the night. University of Central Arkansas President Tom Courtway received the council's President's Award, and UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson was named Person of the Year.

This particular LULAC council scholarship fund was established in 1975.
