— The base Veterinary Treatment Facility now has appointments open to perform surgeries such as spaying and neutering, along with other procedures.

The vet clinic at the Little Rock Air Force Base had been unable to provide these types of services since November 2014, but as of the beginning of September, surgeries now have the green light.

“We can be more of a comprehensive clinic now and provide more of a complete breadth of services to Team Little Rock members,” said Army Capt. Sarah Merriday, officer in charge of the Little Rock Air Force Base Veterinary Treatment Facility. “It provides major convenience for the customer and also provides better medicine since we are already familiar with the patient.”

Army Sgt. Travis Lausier, the clinic’s noncommissioned officer in charge, expects that the ability to perform surgeries will increase business and retain loyal clients.

“It’s an excellent thing to be able to provide services [for clients] that we previously had to turn down,” Lausier said. “This opens up more options for our clients and may bring in new ones.”

The vet clinic’s main mission is to provide services to military working dogs, but the clinic offers many other services on a space-available basis for family pets such as normal vaccines, laboratory services, minor sick calls, mass removals and dental service for canines and felines.

Services are open to active-duty, Reserve, Guard, retired and disabled vets who have access to the base.

The clinic, located in Building 648 SSG Dustin Peters Drive, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
