by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Staff and Wire Reports | September 21, 2015 at 2:34 p.m.

Arkansas has the highest rate of obesity among adults in the nation, according to a report released Monday.

The report released by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found Arkansas had an obesity rate of 35.9 percent.

West Virginia was second with a 35.7 percent rate, and Mississippi was third at 35.5 percent. West Virginia and Mississippi tied for first last year. Both nonprofit groups analyzed CDC figures in releasing the reports.

The data showed that in most states, the rate of adult obesity is not moving.

The 2014 survey found that in 22 states, 30 percent or more of the population was obese. They were mostly in the South and Midwest.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
