Loud noise in downtown Little Rock caused by fighter jets

Three F/A-18 fighter jets passing through the area landed at Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport on Wednesday afternoon to fill up on fuel, with their arrival being heard throughout downtown Little Rock.

Cheri Pritchard, chief of community engagement at the Little Rock Air Force Base, said it is not uncommon for military aircraft to stop in Arkansas’ capital city while traveling to parts of the U.S.

The F/A-18s could be heard traveling over the downtown area shortly after 1 p.m.

Pritchard said the Little Rock Air Force Base is not equipped at this time to handle landings of such military aircraft because of runway construction. That construction is expected to continue through 2017, she said.

The fighter jets remained at Little Rock’s Adams Field as of about 1:45 p.m. and were expected to depart a short time later, Pritchard said.

Clinton National Airport spokesman Shane Carter said the airport did not have any information on the arrival of the F/A-18s.
