Teen's body found submerged in Arkansas river, sheriff's office says

by Brandon Riddle | August 12, 2016 at 3:13 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing after a teenager’s body was found submerged in a south Arkansas river Thursday evening, according to the Drew County sheriff’s office.

The 16-year-old boy, Benjamin Washam of Ashley County, was last seen between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the Gee’s Landing area of the Saline River, authorities said in a news release.

Before Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober and deputies arrived shortly after 5:30 p.m. that day, Washam’s body had been pulled out by witnesses near the bank of the river, which is nearly 105 miles south of Little Rock.

His body was then sent to the state Crime Laboratory to determine a cause of death, authorities said.
