A Hope woman has been arrested on three counts of first-degree sexual assault involving a high school student, according to police.

Kristie Brown, 37, was arrested about 10 a.m. Wednesday and booked into the Hempstead County jail, where she remained as about 4:30 p.m., said Kimberly Tomlin, assistant chief of the Hope Police Department.

Brown is being held on the charges after authorities say she allegedly engaged in inappropriate contact with a Hope High School student.

Tomlin said investigators continue to investigate the case, adding that few details are currently available.

It was unclear Wednesday afternoon if Brown had any affiliation with the Hope School District. A call to the school district for comment went unanswered.

Brown is awaiting a first court appearance that will likely occur Thursday, Tomlin said.
