Location: The trailhead and parking area are at the end of Ranch Boulevard in west Little Rock, 0.85 mile north of Cantrell Road.

GPS: 34.814482, -92.454726

Length: The work-in-progress trail within the preserve's 234 acres is between 1.75 and 2.1 miles, depending on your route.

Main attractions: The path is being mulched in its wettest spots. Meanwhile, it's a frequently muddy, but delightful, well-blazed trek through the bottomland hardwoods along the Little Maumelle River. Want asphalt? Visit nearby Two Rivers Park.

Hazards: Be sure to wear your high-top, waterproof boots. Seriously. Boots.

Dog, bike, tyke friendly? There are lovely open fields in the beginning, but it's not bike nor small-fry friendly in the wet areas. Fido will love it all.
