State colleges add to basketball ranks

Arkansas State University men's basketball Coach Mike Balado announced the addition of three players for the Class of 2018 Wednesday.

Forward Malik Brevard, and guards Larry McLeod and Kobe Wilson each signed national letters of intent with the Red Wolves.

Brevard, a 6-7 forward from Charlotte, N.C., will transfer from Palm Beach State College in Florida. He averaged 6.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game last season for Palm Beach. Brevard shot 58.5 percent from the floor and 35.7 percent from three-point range.

McLeod, a 6-5 guard from Sanford, N.C., also plays at Palm Beach State College. Last season, McLeod averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 65.6 percent from the floor.

Wilson, a 6-1 guard from Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, led his team to a 25-10 record last season. He averaged 10.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game for the AAU Houston Hoopstars during the summer. Wilson played his sophomore season at Jonesboro High School, where he helped the Hurricane advance to the Class 6A state semifinals.

UCA MEN

University of Central Arkansas men's basketball Coach Russ Pennell added three players to his roster in the early signing period.

Porter Anderson, a 6-8 post player, averaged 20.0 points and 12.0 rebounds for Lamar, which advanced to the Class 3A semifinals last season. Anderson is currently at Link Year Prep in Branson, Mo.

Khaleem Bennett, a 6-5 guard from Hamilton, Canada, plays at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kan.

Jaxson Baker is a 6-8 forward from Brophy Prep in Phoenix.

UCA WOMEN

University of Central Arkansas women’s basketball Coach Sandra Rushing added guard Carley Hudspeth to the Sugar Bears’ roster.

Hudspeth, 5-11, was the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools AAA player of the year last season as a junior at Kirk Academy in Grenada, Miss.

UALR WOMEN

University of Arkansas at Little Rock women's basketball Coach Joe Foley added two players to his roster.

Gabby Dodson, a 6-1 post player, has averaged 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during her high school career at Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, La.

Heaven Mbaruk, a 6-0 forward, has averaged 11.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks at Judson High School in Converse, Texas, during her career.

ASU WOMEN

ASU women's basketball Coach Brian Boyer added a Tennessee guard to his roster.

Jireh Washington, a 5-8 guard from Central High School in Memphis, averaged 15.8 points per game last season for Central. She led Central to the Tennessee Class AAA state championship game in 2016, averaging 12.2 points per game.
