An 11-year-old boy was struck and killed Saturday morning when he crossed the street in front of a vehicle on an Arkansas road, state police say.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., a 2014 GMC was traveling east on Madison County Route 6060, about half a mile west of Arkansas 23, according to a preliminary crash report.

An 11-year-old Huntsville boy who was walking on the side of the road turned left, crossed in front of the vehicle and was struck, authorities wrote. He sustained fatal injuries.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry at the time of the collision.

At least 395 people have died in crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary state police data.
