A 41-year-old Hot Springs man was arrested Tuesday after police say he shot toward his wife and her child, hitting a vehicle they were leaving in.

Quanah P. Hopps faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and endangering the welfare of a minor, the Hot Springs Sentinel-Record reported Wednesday.

Hopps' wife and her juvenile daughter were fleeing the residence in a vehicle when Hopps fired toward them, according to a probable cause affidavit cited by the newspaper. Investigators found the vehicle was hit by a bullet under the window of the rear hatch and in line with where the child was sitting, but the round did not penetrate the car's metal exterior, the affidavit said.

Police said Hopps surrendered at the scene and admitted he "fired the gun three times," according to the affidavit. A gun and three shell casings were found by authorities in the front yard.

There were no reports of injuries.

Hopps remained in the Garland County jail on Wednesday. An Oct. 31 court date was scheduled.
