North Little Rock man arrested in sex abuse of girl

A North Little Rock man was arrested Thursday on accusations that he sexually assaulted a child multiple times between Thanksgiving and Sunday, according to court documents.

North Little Rock officers arrested Aljawaun James Cole, 27, on three charges of rape Thursday after a girl was taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital with vaginal pain and told her mother that Cole had assaulted her and told her she couldn't tell anyone, an affidavit for a warrant for Cole's arrest said.

The child's age is redacted in the affidavit.

Cole reportedly tried to bribe the girl, promising to buy her a phone for Christmas and offering her money if she would not tell her mother about the assault, court documents said. Cole reportedly also told the child they would both be in trouble if her mother found out, the affidavit said.

The girl's testimony indicates Cole may have assaulted a second child as well in late November, investigators said. The girl told police she and the second child decided not to tell anyone because they feared getting into trouble.

Cole was in the Pulaski County jail in lieu of a $300,000 bond Friday night.

Officers say woman wielded box in fight

A Sherwood woman threw a Popeye's chicken box at officers who attempted to arrest her during a fight early Friday, according to an arrest report.

Lashanda R. Cooper, 34, is accused of being the woman who walked into a room in Chapel Ridge Apartments near Brockington Road where a woman was sleeping and attacked the sleeper, an arrest report said. Cooper reportedly punched the woman several times "throughout her body" and pulled her hair.

When officers attempted to break up the fight, Cooper threw a Popeye's chicken box at them and began fighting with police, too, the report said.

Cooper was in the Pulaski County jail without bond on charges of second-degree battery, third-degree domestic battery and resisting arrest Friday evening.
