2 Arkansas school districts cancel classes because of illness among students, faculty

Two more Arkansas school districts will be closed Friday due to a high number of students, faculty and staff being sick.

Classes in the McCrory School District will resume Monday, according to a Facebook post.

"We will be disinfecting all buildings tomorrow and this weekend," the post from the Woodruff County district says. "Please help us out with this and do not send students to school who are still showing symptoms of illness."

Gurdon Public Schools will also be closed Friday due to a high rate of absences because of the flu, another Facebook post states. Basketball games Thursday and Friday nights will be played as scheduled, the district wrote.

The Clark County district posted Tuesday that several students were sent home with flu-like symptoms.

The districts are two of several to cancel classes due to illness and flu-like symptoms in the last month, including Russellville, Danville and Mountainburg school districts.

Arkansas' death toll this flu season is 125, which includes three children, according to the latest state Department of Health report.
