Walmart Inc. has revamped the way its website presents home decor items, having created what it describes as a "specialty home shopping experience" at Walmart.com.
The Bentonville retailer's new approach gives customers the ability to browse curated collections organized by Walmart's e-commerce team. The space will also feature design tips and organize products under nine style options, including modern, industrial, bohemian and farmhouse.
Anthony Soohoo, senior vice president and general manager of home decor for Walmart's U.S. e-commerce business, said he believes the effort better aligns Walmart.com with the way consumers search for home furnishings online. "It's much more of a visual shopping experience where a consumer does not know what they're looking for until they see it," Soohoo said.
Walmart U.S. e-commerce chief Marc Lore said in October the company would "elevate the Walmart.com brand" to lure more premium sellers to its website as it competes with retailers like Amazon.com and Target Corp.
Walmart previously announced a partnership to sell products from department store chain Lord & Taylor on its website, establishing a dedicated space that will debut this spring. The company also said it has doubled its home decor assortment over the past year.
The new home furnishings space also will provide a glimpse of a broader redesign of Walmart.com, according to the company. Walmart said a redesigned website will be operating later this year.
