Little Rock police have identified the teen who died in the city's first confirmed homicide victim of the new year, though the motive and details of the killing remain unclear.

Antwan Anderson, 18, died Monday after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, the department said in a news release Tuesday.

The Little Rock teen was shot about 2:20 p.m. outside Eastview Terrace Apartments, 1200 Geyer St., police said. Witnesses told detectives there were several males hanging out in a breezeway when multiple gunshots were fired.

In a report, police said Anderson was hit after firing shots at a white SUV occupied by a 26-year-old and his 1-year-old child.

The SUV's driver said he was in the parking lot when several males "became aggressive" toward him and started shooting at his vehicle, which investigators saw had several bullet holes.

Witnesses also saw a black sedan speeding away from the complex after the gunfire. Investigators spoke to the car's driver, who said he saw the group shooting at the SUV and returned fire before fleeing. The 22-year-old was named as a suspect in Anderson's death but did not appear on the Pulaski County jail's online inmate roster as of Tuesday morning.

Both drivers were interviewed and released without being charged, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
