PRESCOTT -- J. L. Daniels, wealthy farmer and former justice of the peace, living in the lower part of this county, will be placed on trial in Circuit Court here tomorrow, charged with the murder of an aged negro couple about a year ago. The state alleges that Daniels fraudulently secured or forged a deed to a large body of land belonging to the negroes, and that when the negroes learned of that fact Daniels went to their home late one night and persuaded them to drink some whiskey, which contained poison, from the effects of which the negro woman died the next day, while the man lived several weeks.

Bowen, 27, of Fort Smith is accused of capital murder in the Sept. 19, 1990, slaying of Connie Faye Vondran, 43, a teller at Delta State Bank at Elaine. • Hoping to encourage "green" building practices among developers, the Little Rock Board of Directors on Tuesday will consider transferring two vacant lots to a local developer to build two energy-efficient, affordable homes. The homes, which could use some solar energy, efficient insulation, energy-saving appliances and other energy-saving designs, would be aimed at families earning within 80 percent of the area's median income, which is about $40,700 for a family of four. The lots are at 304 W. 26th St. and 2821 S. Spring St. in the heart of a modest residential neighborhood in south Little Rock.
