Arkansas school district cancels classes because of high number of students with flu-like symptoms

An Arkansas school district will be closed Friday because a number of its students are experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Classes in the Russellville School District will resume Monday, according to a Facebook post.

After-school activities scheduled for Friday will continue as planned, the post states.

Arkansas' death toll this flu season is 49, the state Department of Health reported Wednesday.

That includes one child between ages 5 and 18 who died within the last week, according to the department.
