Governor honors Foley

Gov. Asa Hutchinson presented UALR women's basketball Coach Joe Foley with a letter and commemorative basketball after the Trojans' 53-43 victory over Arkansas State University on Saturday.

Hutchinson honored Foley's 750th career victory, which was recorded with a 57-37 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Dec. 31. Saturday's victory extended Foley's career total to 755.

"This is an extraordinary national accomplishment that we see in Foley," Hutchinson said. "He is certainly a state treasure, and we expect him to win many more games."

Foley recorded a 456-81 record at Arkansas Tech University before he was hired at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock before the 2003-2004 season. Foley's Trojans have gone 299-161 in 15 seasons.

"It kind of validates what you do with your career," Foley said. "I've had a lot of great kids. Had some of them here tonight that's played with me in the past.

"Those 750 [victories] are a bigger part of [them] because I haven't made a basket, or got a rebound or stole the ball. So, I didn't win any of those games. I was just part of it."
