An Italian restaurant chain has shuttered its outlet in west Little Rock after nearly 25 years in business.

A recorded message Monday via Romano’s Macaroni Grill’s phone number confirmed the closure at 11100 W. Markham St.

The Romano’s location in Little Rock was the only one in Arkansas.

Around the time it opened in the mid-1990s, the Markham Street eatery was the most popular restaurant in the city, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

Sales in 1994, its first year in business, were nearly $3 million from January through November, not including alcohol, according to figures from the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The nearest Macaroni Grill is now in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.

Never fear. The recently opened Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers about a mile away will surely keep the tax revenue in line for the city.

Mixed feelings here. I loved eating there when in first opened. Stayed away for years when kiddos were little. Recently returned recently with the whole family and was a bit disappointed. The food was pretty good, but pricey, and the service just mediocre. Sad.

Certain areas of Little Rock get to have the pricy and not all that impressive restaurants and eateries. How any of them survive off of the same customer base will always be problematic.

The food did get pricey recently. They took out some of our favorites years ago, such as Italian nachos. In recent years my wife and I only went there when we had a coupon.
Service was kind of hit or miss. Still, it was always better than Carino's or Olive Garden. Service at Carino's is awful, and I haven't been back in about a year. Olive Garden is the same old same old. I'd much rather go to Brunos any night.
