Exhibit 'revealed'

"Exposed: Unmentionables, 1900s-1960s," a historical look at female undergarments, opens today and runs through April 29 at ESSE Purse Museum, 1510 Main St., Little Rock. The exhibit "aims to showcase the evolving perceptions of the ideal female figure and the contraptions it takes to achieve it," according to a news release.

It features artifacts from the museum's permanent collection, including dress forms, corsets, advertisements, slips, photographs and other accessories. Hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10, $8 for students, military and those 60 and older. Call or visit the website, essepursemuseum.com.

Trombonist in house

Joseph Alessi, principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic and professor of trombone at the Juilliard School of Music, will headline a performance at 7:30 p.m. today in Ida Waldran Auditorium, Old Main, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

Alessi will play works for solo trombone and will conduct UCA's Natural Slides Trombone Ensemble and the BearBones Trombone Choir in a program that includes Seven Trombones of the Apocalypse by Santiago Miguel Alarcon and arrangements of "Well You Needn't" by Thelonious Monk and John Williams' Olympic Fanfare. Alessi is wrapping up a three-day residency that includes master classes and a rehearsal with UCA's Wind Ensemble for a Carnegie Hall performance April 23 for which Alessi will be the guest soloist. Alessi and the ensemble have performed together at Carnegie Hall in 2003.

Farrar at Rev Room

Son Volt founder and frontman Jay Farrar leaves the band behind to perform with the Jay Farrar Duo at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rev Room, 300 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. Admission is $20-$30. Call (501) 823-0090 or visit the website, revroom.com.

Farrar started Uncle Tupelo, one of the first in the burgeoning alternative country scene, with Jeff Tweedy and Mike Heidorn in the late 1980s. After Uncle Tupelo split up, he started Son Volt in 1994. The band, which has had a revolving lineup over the years, has released nine studio albums, including last year's Notes of Blue. Farrar has also issued several solo records and has collaborated with Anders Parker, Ben Gibbard and others.

Talent show tryouts

Lupus Foundation of Arkansas Inc. will hold auditions in vocal, instrumental, comedy, spoken word and dance for its second annual Statewide Talent Show, 4-6 p.m. Feb. 23-24 at Gigi's Soul Cafe & Lounge, 10840 Maumelle Blvd., North Little Rock.

There is a $75 registration fee; the auditions are open to the public and there's a voluntary $5 donation to the foundation for spectators. There's a disclaimer on the audition notice: "No death-defying acts, animal acts or acts involving dangerous substances, swords, fire, etc." Additional details, rules, regulations and a registration form are available online at lupusarktalentshow.com. The show will take place at 4 p.m. March 10 at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock. Competition will take place in four age groups: four age categories: 5-17, 18-35, 36-59 and 60-plus. First-place winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize, with $500 going to second place and $200 for third. All three winners will receive a trophy.

Home-tour tickets

Tickets -- 20 in advance, $30 day of tours, free for children 10 and younger -- go on sale Thursday for the Quapaw Quarter Association's 54th Spring Tour of Homes, 1-4 p.m. May 12, 1-5 p.m. May 13, featuring six late 19th-century and early 20th-century houses on Schiller, Summit and Battery streets in the Central High School Neighborhood Historic District.

There will be food trucks and entertainment along the route; trolleys will be available to shuttle participants between tour houses.

Tickets are $35 for a special Preview Party, 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 9 at the MOXY Warehouse, 1504 Jones St., behind Central High School's Quigley Stadium.

A candlelight tour kicks off the weekend, 5-7 p.m. May 12, including champagne stations and followed by a sit-down dinner at Philander Smith College. Tickets are $150. Tickets, $50, for a Mother's Day Brunch, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 13 at Curran Hall, 615 E. Capitol Ave., include a Sunday afternoon tour.
