With the Fourth of July quickly approaching, residents of the Tri-Lakes Edition coverage area have plenty of options to choose from to spend the holiday. Check out these events happening this week.

5K Fun Run

BISMARCK — DeGray Lake Resort State Park will host the fourth annual 4th of July Freedom 5K Fun Run on Wednesday, beginning at 10 a.m at DeGray Lake Resort State Park.

All are invited to wear their most patriotic outfit and run, walk or march the 3.1-mile course. According to the event’s Facebook page, “runners and walkers alike are sure to enjoy scenic lake views and the shade of mature pine trees along our unique, mixed-surface course, which has been modified to include more trail this year.”

All ages and abilities are welcome. The registration fee is $30, and runners must register by Monday. For tickets, visit

Park interpreters will have a host of games and activities available, including a watermelon-eating contest, water relays and an underwater treasure hunt. The fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Independence Day Bash

BENTON — The annual Independence Day Bash will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Saline County Fairgrounds.

The first 300 kids ages 12 and younger through the gate will receive a free Build-a-Bear ticket. The tickets will be redeemable at the Build-a-Bear tents, which will open at 7 p.m.

There will also be a zip line, a climbing wall, food and drinks, helicopter rides and music. The lineup for this year’s event includes the bands Free Verse, Straight Country and Just Sayin.

This year, guests will have an opportunity to download a phone app that will stream music to go along with the fireworks show, which is scheduled to begin at 9:40 p.m.

Salem July 4th Celebration

SALEM — The Salem Fire Department will host a July 4th Celebration that will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Ballpark, 8406 Angela Drive in Benton.

There will be free watermelon and bottled water, as well as a live band, thanks to Thomas Penn & The Highway 5 Blues Band.

There will be a catfish dinner, catered by Riverside Grocery, from 6-8 p.m. at the community building. Tickets for the dinner are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Children 6 and younger may eat free.

No alcohol will be allowed on the premises, and smoking will be permitted only in designated areas.

Malvern July 4th Celebration

MALVERN — Cooper Assembly of God Church, 1436 Cooper Road in Malvern, will host a 4th of July Celebration at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

There will be hot dogs and other food items. There will also be games for all ages inside and outside, and fireworks will begin that night.

Guests are asked to bring a lawn chair.

Prattsville Fourth of July Celebration

PRATTSVILLE — The Prattsville Fire Department will host a Fourth of July Celebration at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Prattsville Community Center, 9108 U.S. 270 W.

Free food and drinks will be provided by Harmony Baptist Church and Sweet Home Baptist Church.
