A Jacksonville man who claimed to "own the United States" reportedly stole two cakes from Kroger, threatened to arrest two police officers and kicked the window of a patrol car that was giving him a ride home Saturday.
Officers responding to a shoplifting call on Gregory Place in Jacksonville met Gary Allen Johnson, 28, who told officers he had amnesia and could not remember his name or where he lived. One of the officers, however, said he recognized Johnson from previous encounters while on duty.
Officers said they could not determine whether Johnson was under the influence of narcotics or alcohol, but, after returning the cakes they decided to drive him to his residence. While trying to determine where Johnson lived, officers said Johnson began kicking the door and window of the patrol car, bending the metal and cracking the glass.
After officers got him out of the car and handcuffed him, Johnson reportedly began to tell the officers he owned the United States and that they were going to be arrested.
Officers arrested Johnson on charges of criminal mischief, terroristic threatening and disorderly conduct. He was still in the Pulaski County jail Tuesday evening in lieu of $3,500 bond.
