PHOTOS: I-40 reopens after truck overturns in wreck

11:20 a.m. UPDATE

An overturned truck that forced part of Interstate 40 to close on Wednesday morning has been cleared.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation said shortly before 11:15 a.m. that the eastbound lanes that had been blocked were open, and traffic would "slowly return to normal" in the area.

10:05 a.m. UPDATE

The left lane of eastbound Interstate 40 east of Brinkley is now open after a truck overturned there earlier Wednesday.

No one was injured in the crash, which blocked both lanes and the shoulder for a time.

There was no estimate on when the second lane and shoulder would be cleared.

The Arkansas Online live traffic map continued to show a significant backup in the area.

EARLIER:

An overturned truck has blocked all eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 in part of Arkansas, officials said.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation said there were no injuries in the wreck involving a tractor trailer near mile marker 223, which is east of Brinkley in St. Francis County.

The crash occurred before 8:30 a.m.

Danny Straessle, a spokesman for the transportation agency, said at 9:15 a.m. that crews hoped to have the inside lane reopened in about an hour.

The outside lane and shoulder were expected to take longer to clear, a process that could be lengthened if the trailer must be unloaded before being uprighted, Straessle said. It was carrying a load of "general merchandise," he added.

The Arkansas Online live traffic map showed a significant backup in the area.
