NEW YORK — Papa John's says founder John Schnatter has resigned as chairman of the board.

The company made the announcement late Wednesday, hours after Schnatter apologized for using a racial slur during a conference call in May.

The apology comes after Forbes cited an anonymous source saying the pizza chain's marketing firm broke ties with the company afterward.

Forbes said Schnatter used the N-word during a media training exercise. When asked how he would distance himself from racist groups, Schnatter reportedly complained that Colonel Sanders never faced a backlash for using the word.

In a statement released by Louisville, Kentucky-based Papa John's, Schnatter said reports attributing use of "inappropriate and hurtful" language to him were true.

Schnatter stepped down as CEO last year after blaming slowing sales growth on the outcry surrounding football players kneeling during the national anthem.

    Delta,

You seem to applaud anybody who is racist. Are you a fan of Hitler too?

GinMac hasn’t weighed in yet. He’s likely out in front of some PJ’s location wearing a sandwich sign advocating a boycott until their grand wizard is reinstated.

Pop, coming from the resident Racist/Ageist/Sexist, your comment is essentially meaningless. And not a big Hitler fan. You?

Some might say what he said was not called for since the company made lots of money from purchases by black people, that black people worked for the company . Yet this is what he is, if you recall his statements on other matters.. remember the ACA and his having to raise prices cause of that ... though if you looked at his mansion where elephants could get lost in, there was not one word of perhaps I dont have to live like Solomon.

As to delta123, do not be so hard on him. It is clear there are several types of christians [ some say 30,000 denominations] , and he is of the new day gop types, talk about it, pick and choose versus and then basically support all goat type actions. The whole PC thing is just a way to use the whole english language again like in the glory days of the south when talking about civil rights. It got a real boost when the issue in a free country of NFL players kneeling made white america gasp, unlike the rallies of treason flags at many patriotic events celebrating the killing of soldiers of the USA.

Are we expecting a sarah sanders statement on this maltreatment of a white man by the leftist obamanites?

Yet in his defense, the average red state voter here in arkansas supports him by using the word to describe their black people, even razorback players . I am not sure if they teach their children the use or the children as part of their other brain washing obligations just pick up the use by listening to parents.

I would note that I did not find that jesus ever used the word.

I find the pizza to be the middle of the road pizza.

Anyone that uses the N-word should immediately be fired, strung up and used as a penyata. It is a derogatory term used by slave owners and other racist idiots for centuries. I include the Rev. Jackson in this and Rap stars (when I say anyone, I am included the courts interpretation of corps and LLCs too). The problem is that investors, which includes many African-Americans, will be injured by the company losing value. Therefore, a law suit should be filed against this guy to sell his mansion and liquidate his assets to reimburse every dollar loss.
