CONWAY — The Faulkner County Quorum Court says it will return the almost $500,000 taken from a voluntary animal-shelter tax fund to buy a Conway facility now being used instead by the sheriff’s office.
The plan had been to lease the building to the sheriff’s office and give the rent money to the fund. But shelter advocates became upset when the sheriff’s office began renovating the facilities and shelter supporters soon realized they couldn’t begin work on it for two years.
Now, many advocates prefer starting from scratch with a new building and perhaps teaming up with the city of Conway on a joint shelter.
Conway already has a city shelter but needs a larger one.
