Eight injured, I-30 temporarily closed after van crash in Arkansas, police say

Interstate 30 was closed for a time Friday morning in Hot Spring County after a van carrying at least eight people was involved in a crash, according to police.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation said on Twitter shortly after 7:30 a.m. that westbound I-30 was closed due to a wreck west of Malvern in Hot Spring County.

Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said the single-vehicle wreck occurred at mile marker 96. Sadler said that of the eight injured people in the van, two were taken to a nearby medical facility. The state Department of Transportation said that two medical helicopters landed for the injured.

None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, Sadler said.

Sadler said that while the interstate was closed, traffic was rerouted for about 45 minutes onto Arkansas 84.

The crash remains still under investigation, police said.
