SPRINGDALE -- The School District's assistant superintendent for teaching and learning in grades 6-12 has been promoted, the district announced Monday.

Marcia Smith, who was assistant superintendent for three years, is now associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction of all grades. She takes the place of Megan Slocum, who went to Fayetteville Public Schools this summer to become associate superintendent for support service.

"I'm excited about this new opportunity and recognize what a privilege it is to serve in the Springdale School District where our Superintendent, Dr. Jim Rollins, and members of our school board have established a long-standing culture of excellence and high expectations," Smith said in a news release.

Rollins praised Smith's career, which has included time as a math teacher and then assistant principal at Springdale High School.

"She will continue to provide exemplary leadership and service in this new role where she will lead the district's overall curriculum and instruction program," Rollins said in a statement.

Rick Schaeffer, district spokesman, said it's not clear yet when Smith's former position will be filled.

Fayetteville's School Board approved Slocum's hiring at its meeting last week.

The administrative moves follow a summer of job transfers in Springdale, including new principals at its three high schools.
