State police: Gravel hauler driver seriously hurt after vehicle hit by train

A gravel hauler driver was hospitalized with serious injuries after the vehicle was hit by a train, state police said.

Trooper Liz Chapman, a spokeswoman for the agency, said the wreck happened Wednesday morning at the railroad crossing at Chandler Lane and Greenfield Road in Poinsett County.

The gravel hauler failed to yield to the northbound train, at which point the train hit the driver’s side of the truck, according to authorities.

Police had not named the injured driver as of Wednesday afternoon.

Chapman said the crash is still under investigation and noted that a complete report would be available within the next week.
