Shot twice in back, man tells Little Rock police

A Little Rock man was shot twice in the back while walking down the street early Sunday, officers said.

Darrius Holmes, 24, told officers he was walking about 1 a.m. near Chicot Road and Mabelvale Pike when two men approached him and asked for a "square," Little Rock Police Department Lt. Stephen Moore said.

Holmes told officers he ignored the question and kept walking, at which time the two men told him to get down on the ground, Moore said. The two men then shot him in the back, Moore said.

Moore said Holmes ran to his girlfriend's residence, who took him to the hospital. Holmes was released later Sunday morning.

Moore said officers have checked the crime scene but found no shell casings, and that Holmes could give no detailed description of the alleged assailants.
