UALR changes men's exhibition

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock men's basketball team will hold a Maroon and White scrimmage today at the Jack Stephens Center instead of its scheduled exhibition against LeMoyne Owen.

"Since our team has already participated in two preseason closed scrimmages, NCAA guidelines prohibit a third preseason contest," Athletic Director Chasse Conque explained in a news release from the school. "While this alteration is not ideal, we look forward to watching our team compete on the court in preparation for the upcoming season."

The scrimmage begins at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free. Fans are encouraged to bring canned goods and other non-perishable food items to be donated to the Trojan Food Pantry.

UALR begins its season Nov. 8 with a home game against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

UALR beats ASU in SBC Tournament

UALR advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season on Wednesday after defeating Arkansas State 4-3 on penalty kicks in Foley, Ala.

The teams played to a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods. Hailey Furio gave ASU (8-7-3) a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on her fifth goal of the season after a shot rebounded off UALR goalkeeper Sara Johansdottir. The Trojans (12-4-3) tied the match in the 58th minute on a header by Liesa Seifert, her fourth goal of the season, that came off a corner kick by Morgan Smocovich.

UALR converted on four of its five penalty kick tries, including one by Nora Hellmers in the final round that forced ASU to convert to extend the match, but Mattie Ertl's attempt was blocked by Johansdottir.
