Man slain in LR; suspect in custody

A man was shot and killed on Sunflower Drive in Little Rock early Friday afternoon, and the suspected shooter is in custody, a police spokesman said.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was alive when officers arrived on scene shortly after the 2:20 p.m. call reporting a shooting at 7316 Sunflower Drive, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, Little Rock police spokesman officer Eric Barnes said.

Officers arrested a man at a house near the site of the shooting without incident. The man arrested is a relative of the victim, Barnes said, but police did not specify the relationship between the two.

The man was shot inside the residence, a red wood-panel home with Halloween decorations still dangling near the front entrance. It was not clear if the victim lived there, Barnes said.

By 6 p.m. Friday, a crime scene unit was walking in and out of the one-story home in the subdivision located in the far south portion of Little Rock. Barnes said investigators had gotten a search warrant for the home.

Neighbors said the area is relatively quiet usually. The last time a major police incident happened in the neighborhood was in 2007 when a neighborhood feud resulted in two people being shot, according to previous reports.

Neighbors said three people lived in the home: a man, a woman and her teenage son.
