Word from the inside

If you've picked up a paper in the last few days, you've probably read that former state Sen. Jon Woods (R-Springdale) is once again in the news. You might've thought you'd heard the last of him for, say, about 18 years and 4 months. But he's back and offering a truly bizarre deal to our president and commander-in-chief.

The papers say Mr. Woods, now a guest of the feds down in Texas, sent a letter to President Trump--and shared the memo with reporters--offering himself and a group of other inmates as workers to build President Trump's border wall. In exchange, it seems they'd like the work to go toward credit on their prison sentences.

Mr. Woods hasn't even been in prison a couple months yet, and it appears he's already looking for an early release. A brief glance at online comments shows little to no sympathy for the former lawmaker. Most people seem eager to make inmates work without any kind of sentence reduction--which might remind a body of asking dad for chore money. (It's chores. You don't get paid for them.)

We doubt the president takes him up on the offer. But you never know with this current occupant of the Oval Office. If he thought it'd drive the news media crazier, he might just do it on a lark.

Whatever you do, Mr. President, just don't put Jon Woods in charge of funding for the wall. For the reason why, see his rap sheet.
