'Festival of Senses' features organist; LR tree lighting set

Organist Rees Roberts will play French music in a program titled "Le Grande Orgue," 7 p.m. Tuesday on the recently completed Nichols & Simpson pipe organ at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4106 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock.

The program: Chorale No. 3 in a minor by Cesar Franck; "Prelude" and "Sicilienne" from Pelleas et Melisande by Gabriel Faure; "Prelude" and "Cantilene" from Trois Pieces by Gabriel Pierne; Chorale Varie sur le Theme du "Veni Creator," op.4, by Maurice Durufle; and the Symphony No. 2 in D major by Charles Marie Widor.

Fort Smith lighting

The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, 5210 Grand Ave., will hold its holiday lighting ceremony, 5:30 p.m. Monday on the Campus Green. Singers will perform seasonal music and hot chocolate will be served. Master of ceremonies will be 2018 Miss UAFS, Elizabeth Spencer. Admission is free. Call (479) 788-7300.

'Bright the Night'

Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola, Arkansas Children's Hospital and downtown businesses will team up for the Downtown Little Rock Partnership's "Bright the Night," a lighting ceremony for downtown's 65-foot public Christmas tree, 6 p.m. Monday at Capitol Plaza, Capitol Avenue and Main Street, Little Rock. Guest choirs will kick things off at 5:30 with festive holiday music. Children's Hospital will provide hot chocolate and cookies and special guests from the hospital will help Stodola and Santa Claus light the tree. Admission is free. Visit downtownlr.com.

MacArthur movie

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History in MacArthur Park, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will screen Death and the Civil War, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, as part of its "Movies at MacArthur" series. Doors open at 6. Admission, popcorn and beverages are free. Visiting Nutcracker

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet brings its touring production of Peter Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, including a cast of area children, to Fayetteville's Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Best Man auditions

The Weekend Theater, 1001 W. Seventh St., Little Rock, will hold auditions, 10 a.m. Dec. 8 and 6 p.m. Dec. 9, for the political drama The Best Man by Gore Vidal. Co-directors Drew Ellis and Jamie Scott Blakey will cast 12 principals -- eight men, four women -- and six ensemble members via cold readings from the script.
