3:30 P.M. UPDATE:
An Arkansas woman has been charged with capital murder in the fatal stabbing of her 8-year-old daughter and 71-year-old mother, who were found dead inside a home Wednesday, authorities said.
Police went to the residence in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Drive in Hot Springs at 7:30 a.m. to conduct a welfare check, according to a news release from the city's Police Department.
Upon arrival, they found 8-year-old Megan Galey and 71-year-old Wanda Self dead from what appeared to be multiple stab wounds, officers wrote.
The release states that police saw 46-year-old Melissa Galey, covered in blood, climb out from underneath the residence. The area where she emerged appeared to have been set on fire.
In an interview with authorities, Galey admitted to killing both people and attempting to set the house on fire, police said. She added that she had been planning the incident for about a week, according to the release.
Records show Galey was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of criminal attempt to commit arson. She was being held without bond Wednesday afternoon at the Garland County jail.
