SEARCY — The White County Iris Society will meet at 2 p.m. at the home of member Paul Love, 605 E. Race Ave. The discussion will be on what members need to be doing in their gardens now to ensure good spring blooms. All are welcome to attend.

Russian Renaissance

Self-Defense Class for Women

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Police Department Community Relations Team will sponsor a free self-defense class for women at 6 p.m. at the Batesville Community Center, 1420 20th St. The two-hour class will be taught by Scott Lancaster, Sgt. Rick Davis and Don Gregory. To practice the self-defense skills learned at the class, Gregory also teaches self-defense classes at Modern Bushido Dojo from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays. The Dojo is on Warrior Road in the old gym of the North Heights Church of Christ. There is no cost for the classes; however, donations for equipment are accepted. ASU-Beebe Symphonic Band Concert

BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Symphonic Band, under the direction of Brent Bristow, will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Owen Center Auditorium. Selections will include works by Erik Morales, Ed Kiefer, Thomas Doss, Vince Gassi, Chad Taylor, James Swearingen and Lisa Galvin. The concert is free and open to the public. AARP Drive Smart Course

SEARCY — PrimeTimes of Unity Health will offer an AARP Drive Smart Course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Hubach Conference Center, 3214 E. Race Ave. The instructors are Jerry and Bertie Yates. The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members with an AARP card and $20 for nonmembers. Participants are asked to park behind the hospital off Moore Street and use the elevator to go to the first floor, and to bring a jacket because the room is cool. Russell Block Party

RUSSELL — The Russell Block Party will take place from 4-6 p.m. at Russell Park, 200 W. Elm St. The free event will feature a petting zoo, live music, blow-ups, Jason the Balloon Guy and face-painting. Ghost of Davidsonville Fall Festival

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park will present its Ghost of Davidsonville Fall Festival, an evening of fall fun, music and history, from 5 p.m. until the last hayride departs. Food, catered by Roberts Country-Fied Cooking, will be available for purchase, as well as funnel cakes by Cub Scout Pack 45. Searcy Lions Club

SEARCY — The Searcy Lions Club meets at noon every Tuesday on the second floor of the Heritage Building on the Harding University campus. The Lions Club raises funds for eye care and eye glasses for White County residents who otherwise could not afford such care. New members are always welcome.
